The active tooth for dry mouth syndrome
By combining orthopedic devices and miniaturized electronics, Valtronic Technologies is able to develop and manufacture « intelligent devices »
An intelligent implant or device means that we combine a mechanical implant or device with a miniaturized electronics module with functions to measure, sense, analyze, transmit information such as temperature, humidity, force, range of motion and position to name just a few.
The active tooth is a good example of the possibilities offered by this combination.
For patients who suffer from Xerostomia (dry mouth syndrome), the implant measures the level of humidity and stimulates the salivary glands that produce saliva. The stimulation is adjusted according to the need of saliva. The product includes a titanium screw and a microsystem with a humidity sensor, electrodes, batteries, wireless system of communication and several IC’s. The patient with an external remote control does the adjustment of the microsystem manually.
Electronics can also be added into implants used within the spine or other musculoskeletal areas making them intelligent and providing the physician and patient with valuable feedback data. In addition, the miniaturized electronics can use the data it has sensed to make adjustments, thus closing the loop between measurement and treatment.
This is one of the new strengths of Valtronic Technologies that make us unique.
COMMENTAIRE
